An objective review of a controversial drug

An objective review of a controversial drug

Although there has been talk about marijuana in the workers’ compensation industry for several years, there are seemingly more questions than answers. In addition, misconceptions about the safety and efficacy of cannabis abound. As Louisiana readies its first crop of medically grown marijuana for distribution, and the various stakeholders take sides, we would like to share a provocative article by Dr. Marcos Iglesias, a leader in the national conversation on the use of the drug in treating work related injuries. Staff spotlight: Senior Medical Services Coordinator Vanessa Keith

Staff spotlight: Senior Medical Services Coordinator Vanessa Keith

Senior Medical Services Coordinator Vanessa Keith joined LWCC in 1997 as a patient advocate. During her career at LWCC, she has worked on several claims teams, including both state and federal (longshore) jurisdiction, before moving to the medical services team. She has also served on several committees, including the committee that created LWCC’s WorkAction program, which helps expedite early return to work. She plans to obtain her CCM in the near future to assist in her current responsibilities which include utilization review and medication management – both critical in combatting today’s opioid crisis. She also conducts rehab conferences with physicians which is the aspect of her job she enjoys most. According to Vanessa, “When you meet with the injured worker and physician face to face, all the pieces of the puzzle come together. Knowing you’re helping someone is the most satisfying part of the job.”
