Apply Now: Kids' Chance Scholarship Program

WRITTEN BY

Baton Rouge, La. (January 23, 2025) – Louisiana’s largest workers’ compensation carrier, LWCC, is helping spread awareness about college scholarship opportunities for children of Louisiana workers who experienced a catastrophic work-related accident. Applications for the Louisiana Bar Foundation’s (LBF) Kids’ Chance Scholarship program are open now through February 27.

Kids’ Chance provides financial support to students whose parent was killed or permanently and totally disabled on the job. These scholarships open doors to education and opportunity for families whose lives were forever changed by a serious workplace injury.

“Kids’ Chance reflects one of the most meaningful sides of our industry,” says Kristin W. Wall, LWCC President and CEO. “At LWCC, we are committed to caring for injured workers, but we also understand that a serious workplace accident impacts the entire family. Supporting this program and these students is a powerful way we can help Louisiana thrive.”

The 2026 awards are expected to reach a major milestone, surpassing$1 million in total scholarships to Louisiana children since the program began in 2004. Through 2025, Kids’ Chance has provided $975,000 in scholarships to 356 students across the state. LWCC is proud to be the program’s largest annual contributor, reflecting the company’s long-standing commitment to injured workers and their families.

Students interested in applying can visit the Louisiana Bar Foundation’s website to review eligibility guidelines and submit an application. Community members, employers and agent partners who wish to support the program can also explore opportunities to contribute.

“These scholarships have changed the lives of so many young people in Louisiana, by providing them access to the education that they thought was lost due to a parent’s workplace injury,” said Louisiana Bar Foundation President Edmund J. Giering IV. “We want to encourage aspiring students to apply for this funding, maximize their educational opportunities and fulfill all of their life goals.”

Applications for Kids’ Chance scholarships are open through February 27, 2026 at LAKidsChance.com. Funds can be used for tuition, books, fees, housing and general living expenses.
