When it comes to promoting and maintaining a safe working environment, communication is key. Fortunately, communication is something that LRC Wireless knows inside and out. What started as a radio communications company in 1947has grown exponentially into a one-stop telecommunications provider servicing residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

“Good communication is one of the basic fundamentals of good management,” says LRC Wireless Safety Manager Michael Williams. “Letting your employees know what their job is, how to perform it, and evaluating their performance makes them better employees. That is why we feel it is important to let them know how they are doing from a safety standpoint. We want our employees to know that the company's safety record is outstanding.”

Louisiana Radio Communications may be the founding name, but the geographic footprint and services provided by this long-standing, safety-focused company are no longer so simply summarized. Today, LRC Wireless has multiple offices across South Louisiana and major projects in seven other states. Their services have expanded as well, now encompassing structured cabling, fiber optics, a full range of I.T. services, emergency alerting systems, and much more.

As the company and their offerings have grown, so has their commitment to maintaining safe work environments. Leadership within LRC long ago recognized that safe employees equate to happy and productive employees and that when workers recognize their wellbeing is a company priority, dedication and job satisfaction increase.

“Effective safety programs rely on the entire organization being involved,” notes LRC’s agent, Logan Pruitt, Louisiana Companies, “but in my opinion, it starts from the top. I see this with LRC. Perry Vincent, President of LRC, puts great value in employee health, safety, and wellbeing, and there’s always a willingness to seek improvement.”

For LRC, safety represents so much more than meeting OSHA requirements. It is a benefit that they are happy to provide to their most valuable asset – their employees. They embrace the privilege of providing a safe workspace wholeheartedly, going above and beyond the standards set for their industry. They proudly maintain a strong experience modification rate of.93 and a three-year total recordable incident rate (TRIR) average of .6, both much better than the industry average.

These high safety standards have been obtained and continue to be achieved through several initiatives. Regular safety and job skills training are an integral part of company culture, as is empowering employees to make safety a priority. For LRC Wireless workers, a normal part of operations includes performing a job safety analysis (JSA) before the job starts, holding toolbox talks on location, attending safety meetings, using stop work authority, and using all the proper personal protective equipment (PPE). In addition, the company uses many of the benefits that come with being an LWCC policyholder to the advantage of employee safety and organizational health.

Unsurprisingly, this company that has focused so greatly on employee wellbeing for 75 years also has the wellness of their Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana communities close at heart. Their Louisiana Loyal way of service has been just what the area has needed, particularly following the recent spate of natural disasters that have left many still struggling to recover. When it comes to emergency services, LRC Wireless is always there, ensuring connectivity when it is needed most.

“Louisiana Radio Communications is considered an essential business. LRC supports and maintains communications for most of the first responders in this market, supplying mission-critical response 24/7/365,” proudly shares Bruce Hamilton, LRC's Structured Cabling Manager. “LRC’s support for non-profit organizations is a major part of LRC’s mission. On a regular basis LRC provides communications, internet, radios, and more for fund raising events and activities. The people of Southwest Louisiana know that they can count on LRC to help them make this area a better place to live.”

With a commitment to safety and wellbeing that encompasses every member of their organization and reaches far into the communities they serve, LRC Wireless is a deserving recipient of LWCC’s Safest 70 Award.
