LWCC's Safe Schools Initiative

WRITTEN BY

At LWCC, safety is paramount. When building a foundation for safety, there’s almost no better place to start than in schools. Ensuring that schools are safe provides students an encouraging environment that promotes social and creative learning while establishing a path for future growth and opportunity. That’s where LWCC’s Safe Schools initiative sought to make an impact.

The Safe Schools program worked to prevent extreme violence on school campuses through training, systems integration, and specialized safety consulting. The program was designed to connect Louisiana school districts with best-in-class experts, vendors, and instructors who could apply safety-conscious planning, point out campus safety improvements, and identify areas to increase student mental health education and intervention.

“We do safety programs for our policyholders regularly and we felt like with school systems it was critical,” says Kristin W. Wall, LWCC President and CEO. “This is a societal need.”

We fundamentally believe that children and their teachers deserve a safe space to learn and grow. From top to bottom we made sure that the Safe Schools initiative would do more than inform to create an engaging strategy with important, actionable takeaways. The initiative provided critical safety components to facilitate both in-person and virtual safety training in schools. The components included:

  • On-site Critical Incident Training
  • Virtual Critical Incident Training
  • On-site Vulnerability Assessments
  • Virtual Site Assessments
  • Ongoing Security Consulting
  • Comprehensive and Actionable Findings Reports

The Safe Schools initiative served the unique needs of schools in Louisiana, including the Zachary and West Baton Rouge School Districts.

“The key to preventing something happening is knowing our students and having those relationships and that’s always something we could do better. This program was a win for us and, more importantly, a win for our students,” said Wes Watts, Superintendent of West Baton Rouge Parish Schools.

LWCC believes that the impact of this program will have long-term impacts on the safety of students and teachers in these districts. As we work to better Louisiana one business and one worker at a time, we are proud to have made an impact on the safety of students and teachers in these communities.
