LWCC Executive Coauthors Issue Brief for the American Academy of Actuaries

WRITTEN BY

BATON ROUGE, La., (October 8, 2025) – LWCC Chief Actuary Angela McGhee contributed to a new issue brief from the American Academy of Actuaries published today.

The brief, titled “Influential Features in the Workers’ Compensation System – What You May Not Know,” examines how state-specific mechanisms affect the pricing and availability of workers’ compensation coverage.

McGhee and other volunteers with the American Academy of Actuaries’ Workers Compensation Committee elevated three key points:

  • Workers’ compensation has unique characteristics that influence the pricing and availability that vary by state.
  • Rating Bureaus play a crucial role in ensuring a fair and stable marketplace.
  • Residual Markets and State Funds offer solutions to availability and affordability challenges.

“At LWCC, learning is a core value that drives our company culture,” said McGhee. “Contributing to this issue brief was an opportunity to share knowledge, collaborate with peers, and help advance a deeper understanding of the complexities in our field. Ultimately, that helps strengthen the workers’ comp system for everyone it serves.”

The full brief can be downloaded and read here.
