LWCC Kids’ Chance Invitational Golf Tournament Raises $31,000

WRITTEN BY

BATON ROUGE, La. (Dec. 14, 2015)— The twelfth annual LWCC Kids’ Chance invitational golf tournament raised $31,000 for the Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program. The Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program provides scholarships to dependent children of Louisiana workers killed or permanently and totally disabled in a workplace accident to assist them with achieving their educational goals.

At the tournament, held at the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge on October 19, LWCC President and CEO Kristin Wall presented a check to LBF Kids’ Chance Committee Co-Chair Michelle Sorrells, who accepted on behalf of the Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program.

In 2003, LWCC’s board of directors founded this tournament to raise money for the Kids’ Chance Louisiana chapter. Since its inception, the LWCC golf tournament has raised over $371,000, which has contributed to 235 scholarships totaling $459,600 awarded to LBF Kids’ Chance Scholarship recipients.

“Caring for injured workers is an integral part of our mission at LWCC,” stated Wall. “We are honored to help provide financial assistance to these families and support these students in their drive for educational success.”

The Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program is administered by the Louisiana Bar Foundation and governed by a committee representing a cross-section of legal and workers’ compensation communities, including LWCC.

The first program, Kids’ Chance, Inc., was established in 1988 by the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Georgia State Bar. Today, there is a collection of independent programs in 30 states.

“Kids’ Chance believes that it can make a significant difference in the lives of all children affected by a workplace injury by helping them pursue and achieve their educational goals,” stated Sorrells.

The 2016 LWCC Kids’ Chance invitational golf tournament is scheduled for Sept. 19, 2016.
