LWCC Kids’ Chance Invitational Golf Tournament Raises Over $39,000

WRITTEN BY

BATON ROUGE, La. (November 14, 2016)—The thirteenth annual LWCC Kids’ Chance invitational golf tournament raised over $39,000 for the Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program. The Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program provides scholarships to dependent children of Louisiana workers killed or permanently and totally disabled in a workplace accident to assist them with achieving their educational goals.

At the tournament, held at the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge on September 19, LWCC Senior Vice President & Chief Claims and Information Officer Paul Buffone presented a check for $35,000 to LBF Kids’ Chance Committee Co-Chair Michelle Sorrells and LBF President E. Jane Sherman, who accepted on behalf of the Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program. A final accounting of the tournament and a few unexpected donations brought the total amount raised up to $39,900.

In 2003, LWCC’s board of directors founded this tournament to raise money for the Kids’ Chance Louisiana chapter. Since its inception, the LWCC golf tournament has raised over $410,000, which has contributed to 255 scholarships totaling $533,100 awarded to LBF Kids’ Chance Scholarship recipients.

“At LWCC, we care for injured workers and the Kids’ Chance Program complements this very important part of our mission,” stated LWCC President and CEO Kristin Wall. “We are proud to be a part of something that truly impacts the lives of Louisiana children affected by workplace injury.”

The Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program is administered by the Louisiana Bar Foundation and governed by a committee representing a cross-section of legal and workers’ compensation communities, including LWCC. The first program, Kids’ Chance, Inc., was established in 1988 by the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Georgia State Bar. Today, there is a collection of independent programs in 36 states. These programs will be celebrated during National Kids’ Chance Awareness Week November 14-18, 2016.

“Kids' Chance believes that we can make a significant difference in the lives of all children affected by a workplace injury by helping them pursue and achieve their educational goals,” stated Sorrells. “National Kids' Chance Awareness Week is designed to highlight Kids' Chance initiatives, programs, and state organizations and raise awareness about Kids' Chance and our mission.”

The 2017 LWCC Kids’ Chance invitational golf tournament is scheduled for September 25, 2017.
