LWCC Raises $43,000 for Kids' Chance Scholarship Program

WRITTEN BY

BATON ROUGE (December 13, 2021)– Together with agent and business partners, LWCC donated $43,000 to the Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program during a public event last week that featured Billy Beane, Major League Baseball (MLB)executive and subject of the bestselling book and Oscar nominated film, Moneyball. The scholarship program, administered by LBF, provides scholarships to dependent children of Louisiana workers permanently injured, totally disabled, or killed in a workplace accident. Since 2004, the program has awarded 322 scholarships totaling $784,000.

“The Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program has been important to LWCC for many years as our missions are closely aligned. Workplace injuries impact the entire family and we are proud to have the Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program available to support the families of injured workers,” said Kristin Wall, LWCC President and CEO. “This event brought together many of the Louisiana Loyal initiatives we are passionate about. In addition to supporting this great cause, we were able to utilize the Foster Learning Center to bring together thought leaders from across our state to learn about innovative approaches to business.”

LWCC has historically supported Kids’ Chance through a golf tournament. Following the opening of the Governor M.J. “Mike” Foster, Jr. Learning Center at LWCC, the workers’ comp insurance company launched a Speaker Series with the inaugural event designed to support the scholarship program. This event gave the company the opportunity to engage with a larger audience as attendees were able to join both in person and virtually.

Billy discussed with attendees, which included sponsors, agent partners, community leaders, and employees, how his data-driven approach in management of the Oakland A’s is relevant to all businesses.  He emphasized the importance of keeping emotions out of decision making, some things especially challenging when managing a sports team, and remaining focused on the long-term strategy, with a heavy reliance on numbers and analysis.

“Billy masterfully connected with all attendees, by combining his deep knowledge of sports, including LSU, with storytelling. Leveraging the passion of a typical sports fan, of which there were many in the room, he was able to show us the value of staying the course and trusting the data,” said Seth Irby, LWCC Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer.

Christopher K. Ralston, Louisiana Bar Foundation President, and Patricia Bonneau, Kids’ Chance Committee Co-Chair and Louisiana Bar Foundation Board member, joined Matt Richards, Deputy General Counsel at LWCC Kids’ Chance Committee Co-Chair, for the check presentation before the speaker presentation.

“The Louisiana Bar Foundation believes that it can make a positive difference in the lives of children, affected by their parent’s catastrophic workplace injury, by giving these young people a chance to pursue and achieve their educational goals with the assistance from scholarships made through the Kids’ Chance program. The LBF is making that difference through this program and the ability to provide direct financial assistance to these students is made possible through the generous sponsors of the Kids Chance Scholarship Program,” stated Richards.
