If you are injured while on the job, the key to getting back to work is early intervention. It is extremely important to notify your employer of your work-related injury or illness as soon as possible. As your employer’s workers’ comp insurance company, it is our mission to help you successfully return to work as quickly and safely as possible.

Step 1
Notify your employer of your work related accident and/or injury
It’s important to notify your employer and make them aware of the incident as soon as possible. Doing so helps ensure you are provided with the necessary medical care and helps get the claims process started.
Once a claim is filed you will be assigned to one of our claims experts. Our team members are compassionate industry experts who manage all aspects of a claim, help reduce claims costs, and help you return to work as soon and safely as possible.
Step 2
Getting Medical Care
As part of helping you return to work, LWCC will provide you with reasonable and necessary medical treatment if our investigative claim representative (ICR) confirms that your injury is covered under Louisiana’s workers’ compensation state law. If so, you should receive benefits as outlined under the law in a timely manner. If your claim is covered and compensable, you will be contacted by a claims representative within 24 hours after your claim is transferred from the ICR. Your employer and medical provider will be contacted within 48 hours.
Step 3
Access the prescription medication you need
To get access to the prescriptions you need, your employer can provide you with a first-fill form. Our goal is to limit your out of pocket expenses and provide access to the medical care and prescriptions you need.
By reporting your injury as outlined above, you ensure a more timely response and access to care. As part of our claims process, a pharmacy card can only be mailed out once the claim has been determined compensable. Once the pharmacy card is received, all prescriptions should be filled using your pharmacy card.
Step 4
Returning to work
Research shows that employees recover from their injuries faster when they are on the job, even in a modified or light-duty capacity. LWCC facilitates this process by incorporating work tasks into the physician-approved treatment plan through our unique return-to-work program, WorkAction.
Utilizing vocational rehabilitation specialists, WorkAction helps injured employees get back to work by providing on-site job analyses and recommending modified or transitional duty alternatives to ease the injured worker back into the workforce with a plan that works for you.
Step 5
Learn how your wage benefits are calculated
An employee who is injured on the job may be eligible for weekly/monthly indemnity benefits if the injury prevents the employee from returning to work for more than seven calendar days.
