Workplace Safety Infraction Policy
Accidents can happen; but how we respond makes all the difference. By reporting incidents quickly, working together to find the cause, and taking steps to prevent future issues, we create a safer environment for everyone. Here's what you need to know:
Report All Accidents: Don’t wait! If there’s an accident or injury, even a small one, tell your supervisor or safety officer right away.
- Fill out an incident report within 24 hours
- Include what happened, who was involved, and possible causes
- Your report is confidential but important for improving safety
Investigate What Happened: The safety team investigates to understand the accident.
- They’ll assess the situation and ask questions to find the root cause
- You may be asked to share what happened to help clarify details
- Minor incidents are reviewed within 3 days; major ones within 5
Fix the Problem: Once the cause is known, the goal is to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
- A plan is created to correct the issue (training, equipment repair, etc.)
- Additional support may be offered
- Solutions are checked to ensure they work
Correct the Behavior: When accidents keep happening due to repeated behaviors, a step-by-step approach helps address it.This process isn’t about punishment, it’s about helping everyone stay safe and succeed at work.
- Verbal Warning – A conversation about what needs to improve
- Written Warning – A formal notice with clear expectations
- Training or Plan – Additional support to improve performance
- Final Steps – Time off or other actions if the issue continues
By working together to report incidents, understand what went wrong, and make meaningful improvements, we can build a safer workplace for everyone. Whether it’s addressing a one-time accident or helping someone improve through progressive steps, the goal is always the same—keeping our team safe, supported, and ready to succeed. Here are a few key things to remember:
- Report accidents right away
- Help identify causes so they can be fixed
- Take part in solutions, including extra training when needed
- Understand that discipline is a tool for improvement, not punishment
