Woman-Owned and Led
Roco Rescue has built its reputation in a highly technical field while also challenging expectations about who can lead it. The company is 100% woman-owned and has been WBENC-certified since 1996, bringing a distinct perspective to an industry centered on rescue, industrial safety, and emergency response.
Today, that leadership is part of a company known for setting high standards, developing skilled professionals, and preparing people to perform when the stakes are high. According to company president, Kay Goodwyn, “We are proud to work with those who are dedicated to saving lives and reducing injury to those in peril. They put their lives on the line on daily basis to serve others.”

Louisiana-Built Expertise
Roco’s story began in Louisiana in 1982, when Louisiana State Police SWAT members Roop and Cook began developing high-angle rope techniques. As word spread, they began sharing their knowledge with local fire departments and agencies across the country, eventually forming Roco to provide specialized rescue training and equipment.
Louisiana remains home and an important part of Roco’s work. From industrial plants and ports to waterways, energy operations, and severe weather, the state presents complex rescue and safety challenges. Roco helps prepare the people and organizations behind these critical industries to operate more safely and respond effectively when emergencies arise.

Real-World Rescue Training
Effective rescue training requires more than learning techniques. It requires practicing them in environments that reflect the challenges rescuers may actually face.
Roco pairs instructors with real field expertise with adaptable teaching and realistic scenarios designed to prepare students for challenges they may encounter on the job. That expertise extends beyond the classroom through standby rescue services, safety and medical personnel, rescue-team evaluations, equipment inspections, and specialized rescue equipment.

Advancing Rescue Safety
Roco’s approach to rescue continues to evolve alongside the environments, equipment, and challenges its customers face. The company regularly evaluates new techniques and equipment, improves training scenarios, develops experienced instructors, and customizes programs around the needs of those it serves.
That commitment to continuous improvement is reflected in Roco’s “safe way and safer way” philosophy: the belief that even when something can be done safely, there may still be an opportunity to do it better. It’s a mindset that keeps Roco looking ahead and continually raising expectations for how rescue work can be performed.

Leading by Example
For Roco Rescue, safety is more than something they teach. It’s a standard they practice every day. While preparing others to safely navigate complex rescue environments, Roco applies that same commitment to its own people, operations, and workplace.
That commitment has earned Roco recognition as an OSHA VPP Star Worksite since 2013, as well as frequent recognition through LWCC’s Safest 70 Awards, which honor policyholders who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to workplace safety.
As an LWCC policyholder, Roco shares LWCC’s commitment to protecting Louisiana’s workforce through proactive safety and education. Together, that focus extends beyond responding when something goes wrong to helping prevent injuries before they happen and creating safer workplaces across Louisiana.
