LWCC encourages all businesses, regardless of size and sector, to prioritize creating a culture of workplace safety in 2022.
Focusing on the safety, health, and wellness of employees leads to happier and healthier employees, but it can also impact the bottom line of your business. In 2019, the total cost of workplace injuries was $171 billion. To offset this cost, the average worker must create a value of $1,100. In 2020, 4,113 workplace injury related deaths were preventable.
Our Safety Services team offers several recommendations on how to ensure your workforce remains safe through the year.
1. Complete LWCC’s Self Evaluation Safety Survey
This survey for LWCC policyholders evaluates current safety processes and operations and provides a starting point for development of a formal safety program. Upon completion, the policyholder can request resources or a consultation from LWCC’s Safety Services team through the Consultants on Call. This 25-question survey takes only 5-10 minutes to complete. If you are an LWCC policyholder interested in completing this survey, please email ssrep@lwcc.com.
2. Build a Safety Plan
A written and approved safety plan ensures formal safety practices are in place. LWCC recommends following these five steps in development of your plan.
When developing your plan, pay special attention to OSHA’s10 most cited violations in 2021. Fall protection has been at the top of this list for eleven years straight. In 2021, respiratory protection was second. Consider these highly cited violations as you review your workplace and integrate measures to address them.
3. Utilize LWCC’s Safety Tools and Resources
LWCC provides policyholders several tools and resources to implement safe workplace practices. These resources include online safety training courses, safety video lending library, the safety support document library, Mobile Training Safety Center, and virtual driver simulator. Take advantage of these resources to launch or supplement your safety program.
4. Consultants on Call
For companies in need of more personalized assistance in developing safety plans or mitigating hazards, the LWCC Safety Services Team is available through the Consultants on Call program. This team of experienced professionals is prepared to understand your unique operations and make customized safety recommendations.
