Meet Our LiveWell Fitness Partner: Cooper Wellness Strategies

LWCC’s corporate wellness program, LiveWell, is guided by four pillars, one of which is physical fitness. At the heart of this pillar is an on-site, state-of-the art gym which offers group exercise classes and wellness consultations to all employees. The instruction and resources provided are made possible by our partnership with Cooper Wellness Strategies, a Cooper Aerobics company. But to understand the strength of this program, you have to meet Cooper Wellness Strategies. Let’s get to it.

Cooper Wellness Strategies helps build healthier communities across the United States by providing its services to corporations, health care facilities, residential and senior living communities, as well as medical and commercial fitness centers. Their experienced fitness and wellness professionals deliver innovative, customized strategies to engage employees in fitness and create lasting healthy change. As our fitness partner, Cooper is using its expertise to take LiveWell to greater heights.

“LWCC is making strides in creating a collaborative program integrating  internal resources with external wellness partners. Cooper’s primary role is to meet the needs of the LiveWell wellness program as it relates to ‘physical’ wellness,” said Joseph Callahan, Fitness Account Director for Cooper Wellness Strategies.

SUPPORTING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE AT WORK

An important core ideology shared by Cooper Wellness Strategies and LWCC is to make sure a significant focus of LiveWell is preventive care. The emphasis on prevention provides an opportunity for employees to maintain a proactive healthy lifestyle instead of addressing chronic health issues.

For example, LiveWell places importance on making sure that healthy behaviors in both exercise and nutrition are sustainable and enjoyable for the long-term. That’s where Cooper Wellness Strategies comes in. They provide basic, scientifically-sound education on fitness and nutrition to help with each employee’s health journey.

Cooper fitness instructors, Jeff Barbera and Landon Chastant, work closely with LWCC employees to help them achieve individual fitness goals. When building the corporate wellness program for the company, Cooper Wellness Strategies considered fitness regimens people could utilize both at work and at home.

Since most people already spend a majority of their day at work, health initiatives like LiveWell offer convenience and ample opportunity for exercise. We believe that access to physical and mental health resources is important because it can help increase happiness, energy, focus, and self-efficacy as a person and as an employee.

While working with trainers from Cooper Wellness Strategies, employees have the opportunity to  take advantage of years of specialized expertise and resources to improve the quality and quantity of their lives through fitness. Prioritizing physical fitness doesn’t have to demand a substantial amount of time. Cooper recommends the average person should participate in moderate physical activity for a collective 30 minutes a day, five days a week.

Cooper Wellness Strategies suggests guidelines based on Dr. Kenneth Cooper’s 8 Healthy Steps to Get Cooperized™:

  1. Maintain a healthy weight
  2. Make healthy food choices most of the time
  3. Exercise most days of the week
  4. Take the right supplements for you
  5. Do not use tobacco
  6. Control alcohol
  7. Manage stress
  8. Get a regular, comprehensive physical exam

When we talk about wellness, LiveWell looks at the whole person. It’s our goal that it serves as an example of how to implement wellness initiatives for employees.

“At LWCC, we have implemented a program that incorporates a high-touch member experience in which members have the opportunity to participate in small group training exercise programs with a focus on functional movement and cardiovascular fitness. The small group model assists in creating a community atmosphere within fitness facilities which can inherently increase participation and accountability,” said Callahan.

THE NEW FITNESS FACILITY

When employees receive physical fitness and training services from Cooper Wellness Strategies, they benefit from a gym/fitness center  stocked with state-of-the-art equipment.

“The company has dedicated the necessary resources to build an amazing fitness center for its employees. The strength training and cardio equipment purchased can be effectively used by employees of all different levels of fitness, from the beginner to the advanced,” said Jeff Barbera, Fitness Manager of the LWCC Fitness Center. “The new fitness center is ideally situated/laid out with ample space for simultaneous  exercise classes , providing more options and flexibility for our members.”

With Cooper providing fitness expertise in the new facility, employees will have the opportunity to participate in cardiovascular and functional fitness assessments and improvement plans.

“The biggest highlight in this fitness facility is that it’s all conveniently located inside the company office building. With access to a full power rack, cabled-based machines and everything you would find inside any commercial gym setting, these options have made my job more enjoyable with the level of creativity I can  provide for our many fitness classes,” said Cooper Wellness trainer Landon Chastant.

The new fitness facility is ready for LWCC employees to work toward their fitness goals through LiveWell.
